MECHANIC

This is automotive mechanic work. Duties involve inspecting, maintining and repairing automotive and other mechanical equipment.
Work is supervised by a technical and administrative superior. Assignments are varied and are carried out in accordance with work instructions and established precendents, practices and procedures. Work involves physical effort and exposure to the elements and requires shift work and availability to combat emergencies.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of gas and diesel automotive and related mechanical repair practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of mechanical hazards and related safety precautions.
Some knowledge of welding practices and procedures.
Skill in safely operating automotive and mechanical repair equipment.
Skill in diagnosing and correcting automotive and mechanical problems.
Ability to care for and properly use automotive and mechanical diagnostic, repair and fabricating tools.
Ability to adapt available tools for specific repair needs.
Ability to maintain routine maintenance related records.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to perform physical labor under varying weather conditions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with associated with other City employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Three years of progressively responsible experience in operating and/or repairing varied automotive and/or mechanical equipment of which one year involved automotove repair work.

Or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience. The successful completion of an acceptable course in automotive or mechanical repairs may be substituted for one year of experience.

LICENSE
Possession of a valid class 2 Pennsylvanie motor vehicle operator's license.
